Monster Brawl Opening Gala for Toronto After Dark

The Ghost Show recently attended the Toronto After Darks opening gala of Monster Brawl and had a spooktacular time meeting some of the stars and chatting with fans.

After Dark Film Festival is an exciting week for any genre fan living close enough to the beautiful Underground Cinema. It's a great time and place to connect with other horror fans, watch unique films and meet the people behind the magic.
This was The festivals first year at The Underground, they had to find a new home due to The Bloor Cinemas recent renovations. I'm not sure if I'm alone when I say this but the Underground Cinema felt like the perfect place to be. Normally, I struggle with sound (at the Bloor) but this new location kept me going and for the first time I wasn't fighting to stay awake.

Monster Brawl is the perfect horror comedy film for any horror loving wrestle mania fan. Directed by Canada's very own Jesse Cook and starring Jimmy Hart, Robert Maillet, Dave Foley and RJ Skinner. Monster Brawl feels like you're actually watching wrestling on television only instead of men in tights we get the undead, women with fangs, witches, werewolves, zombies and Frankenstein.

So grab a bottle of Boo Brew and run out to your nearest horror film fest screening of Monster Brawl cuz you'll have one campy fangtastic ride you won't want to miss!

I spent yesterday on set of The Marilyn Denis Show co-hosted by the amazing Elvira (my one and only diva of the dark), they were pre-taping the Halloween Spooktacular episode.

The staff were cooperative and friendly, the props are over the top and exciting, the costumes are crazy and so many to choose from. I can't wait to share this episode with you. How can you not love Twisted Twins?

I'm very excited about episode 2 of The Ghost Show, now posted on www.horror-movies.ca

I'm thrilled like Michael Jackson was in that zombie video to have the Soska Sisters Jen and Sylvia, also known as the Twisted Twins as my special guests.

These two girls are the master minds behind Dead Hooker In A Trunk, their very first and very messed up film. Dead Hooker In A Trunk is one of the most original (and lets not forget disgusting) films I've seen in awhile. I really didn't think I would love a movie about a dead hooker, not that I think about dead hookers.... No, really I don't..... Ok, maybe just a little!

Where was I? Oh yeah, the twisted Twins are currently in production on their next feature film titled "American Mary" and even though we've become the bestest of email buddies EVER, their lips are sealed, it's almost like a cat has got their tongues or something (I'm sure a lot of their guy fans would love to see that) you never know, we might see that in American Mary! I can't wait to see American Mary but for now the teaser trailer is all we get.

I keep getting off topic, mostly because I'm very excited to tell you the Soska Sistas are in my brand spanking new episode of the Ghost Show. They let us know who their all time favourite horror movie villain is and even know I don't agree, I gotta give them credit for being original. Jen actually confided in me they were a little bummed to both have the same answer. I gotta secretly admit to you, I was excited they did!

When I first asked them to be a part of this they really weren't sure if they had the time, these girls are more swamped then The Creature From The Black Lagoon but some how they pulled it off and made time for little ol' Ghost. So I'd really like to thank them for finding the time to SPIDER web-cam me.

It's been way too long but I'm back and I'm.... Well, I'm back!

I have a new wee show on www.horror-movies.ca called The Ghost Show, cuz my names Ghost and it's my show! So if you haven't guessed the show is all about horror movies. The very first episode was posted today and it's all about my top ten horror comedy films.

Just a warning this was kind of a test sample episode, the second one will get a lot better. I actually had to re-design my haunted basement (oh yeah, you'll hear all about my haunted basement in episode 3) and give it a brand spanking new monster-makeover! You'll discover this in episode 2.

A family looks to prevent evil spirits from trapping their comatose child in a realm called The Further.

I'm very excited about this movie, in my opinion it is the scariest film I've seen in a very long time. Maybe it's because I watched it late at night in a dark, cold, creepy basement or maybe it's just a spooky movie. If you're like me and love original horror movies that don't always resort to blood and gore or "the gross factor" as I like to call it, then I think you'll love Insidious.

I'm really impressed director of SAW, James Wan, pulled off such an intense freaky MONSTERpiece without all the tongue biting grossness he's so good at. Oh, and remember Barbara Hershey? Since when did she become old enough to play a grandmother? This was almost as scary as the movie itself!

I could go on and on about this new to DVD release but I'd end up spoiling too much and I don't wanna ruin it for you! So while you run to your closest video shop to get this movie I'm gonna call a paranormal investigator to come to my house ASAP because I'm now convinced I'm being haunted by ghost's that want to eat my soul.

The New 2011 Teen Wolf

Alrighty, I just have to give every werewolf movie or TV show a chance and I gotta say I was expecting a lot less from the new Teen Wolf series. The show isn't just about the eye candy, which I'm sure is going to be more then enough for every girl and gay boy tuning in to this furry series. I thought the premiere was entertaining and full of bite.

It's definitely no comparison to True Blood (my favourite show since Buffy) but I will without a doubt be tuning in for more.

Oh and it has little to do with the hit movie from the 80's starring Michael J. Fox but I think they went in a good direction to make this last longer then an hour and a half.

I suggest you check it out and I insist you never moon a werewolf!

HAPPY FRIDAY THE 13TH

It's Friday The 13th and it's the only one this year! I love Friday the 13th, it's the next best thing to Halloween. Friday the 3th makes me think of black cats, walking under ladders, breaking mirrors, and Jason wearing a hockey mask and slashing young slutty people hiding out in the woods for a little naughty tickle.

Hey speaking of the Friday the 13th movies, does anyone else think mothers day should be celebrated on Friday the 13th instead? Just because Jason was such a mamas boy, anyone who is obsessed with horror films as much as I am should now reschedule the holiday.

Elvira pointed out on Twitter that every Friday the 13th falls on a month that begins on a Sunday. Now that's some crazy ass math I never would have conjured up but I'm so glad she did because I think that is some cool ass shit!

Any-howl, I hope you have a FANGTASTIC Friday 13th and if you get invited to a hockey game you may want to reschedule for another night.... Just saying!

Peaches Christ on Feast Of Fun

The always entertaining Peaches Christ (Cult Leader and director of All About Evil) has a lot to talk about on the Feast Of Fun Podcast show This weekend, in light of Mamas day, Peaches will be screening Mommie Dearest in San Francisco. Peaches always puts on one hell-uva pre show so if you're in SanFran make sure you check it out!

Peaches also talks about her friendship with the one and only Elvira and her appearance on Movie Macabre. How Fangtastic is that? I actually had fun watching them film parts of that episode thanks to Elviras new LIVE video feed on her website, SO FUN!

My favourite part of this podcast was listening to Peaches rant and rave about her ghoulfriends ditching her for other celebrities (I dare not say BIGGER Peaches scares me a little) Ashley Fink (All About Evil, Glee, Fat Girls) has apparently ditched her for a new gay and Elvira (if I need to explain who she is then just stop reading this) may possibly be ditching her for a new Drag Queen. This cruelly is a catastrophe, THEY NEED TO BE STOPPED! Find out who I'm talking about in the Podcast.

Last night I got to watch Elvira film her last episode of movie macabre live from her brand spanky new website. What a great way to share your"goodies" with your fans. This really was a once in a lifetime opportunity.... That she will be repeating from time to time.

Not only did we get to see Elvira forget she was live on the web in between takes as she adjusted her panties but she also answered fan questions, was joined by the wonderful Peaches Christ and one of her Man-viras (as she likes to call them)! Oh, and we found out Movie Macabre is definitely coming back for season 2 WOO HOO!

It was a cold foggy night, the moon full.... Ish! The perfect ngut to see a movie, 10 years of waiting had finally come to an end, that's right I saw Scream 4

What can I say without being one of those assholes that ruins the movie, especially a movie that relies on it's guessing game charm!

I absolutely loved the first five minutes, Awesomeness at it's finest! A couple of the deaths were pushed way too far for my scream liking but the ending makes up for it.

Again I won't spoil anything but I wasn't to thrilled with the choice of killer I was hoping it would be a little more fresh but it doesn't hurt the film.

As far as fourth installments go with the exception of bride of chucky of course, this was still one of the bests of the best so yes I will buy the DVD.

KILL THEORY

In Kill Theory, a bunch of friends head out on a getaway together and are faced with a hard decision. Kill each other or be killed. It had a sort of SAW like feeling to it but it was a fun movie to watch. I'm loving After Dark films, I think because I'd rather watch an original movie or a film that feels similar to another then watch a really bad remake.

I know I could never kill my friends just to save myself but this movie definitely makes you wonder what we are all capable of when put in a life threatening situation. I'm pretty sure I'd run like a mother f*@*er!

HUSK was a breath of fresh air, why has it taken me so long to watch this? This was one of the scariest films I've seen in a long time. It was original, creepy, and damn entertaining. I loved, LOVED the costume designs, the scarecrows were very eerie, I'll be avoiding cornfields for a little while.

After seeing his inspirational, breathtaking, original, spooktacular and out of this world art collection I've decided it's official, I want to move in with Tim Burton... He can keep me in his backyard and chain me to a tree for all I care, I just want to see his work again and again and again!

It was awesome seeing everything from his childhood work to now, his concept sketches, costume designs, movie props, paintings, and animations I hadn't seen before. Just get the f%$# off the couch (or computer) and visit this exhibit so you too can see his MONSTERpieces!

Buffy remake WTF?

So word is Kristen Stewart is going from vampire layer to vampire slayer, she's like a preying mantis first she boinks you and then she kills you.

When I first heard she was stepping up to the Buffy role I thouht WTF is this an April fools day joke? Seriously? But apparently Joss Whedon is cool with it so who am I to judge.... Ok I'm definitely going to judge as soon as I see the movie set for summer of 2012

I already know from past experience I'll hate it and then love it. I couldn't picture anyone other then Kristy Swanson playing Buffy and hated Sarah Michelle the entire first season. Then, as time passed, I grew to love Sarah Michelle.... Until that bitch quit Buffy hehehehe

Who's afraid of the big bad wolf? I wasn't, I wasn't!

Red riding hood wasn't quite what I had hoped but having read multiple reviews was pretty much what I was expecting.

I will admit I enjoyed watching it and I'm glad I ignored friends telling me not to waste my money (although I did use a 2 for 1 coupon from pizza pizza) but still it did fall flat.

The movie was good but I wanted it to be great especially with Gary Oldman (Dracula) and Virginia Madsen (Candyman) making an appearance. I think it needed more horror, more scares and more wolf.... Or maybe some crazy ass sex with all those boys chasing after her instead of tip toeing around it like an elf hiding cake from Santa Claws...

I think that was my problem it was somewhere in between a movie for teens and a movie for horror goer adults, well what can we expect from the director of Twilight wink wink!

It's no secret that the Chucky movies are my all time favourite horror series and now that they're in talks for a Chucky remake I'm excited and torn. I'm excited because rumors are they will be keeping the original Chucky (Brad Dourif) but what about Tiffany?

I love Jennifer Tilly as Chuky's bride and this is the only link to the series I would crave and miss deeply by choosing a remake over a sequel.

So here's my idea, remember when Tiffany pulled out her ring she found the night Chucky was killed? How great would it be if they actually included that scene in the remake? Ok so it would only be a small cameo, but a cameo is better then nothing right?

I can think of a million things I'd rather do in an elevator then being trapped with the devil.... Wooops, that was my inside voice speaking, just ignore that!

I really wanted to see this in the theatre but didn't get around to it, I'm not really sad about missing this one on the big screen. It wasn't a bad movie I actually enjoyed it but I like more effects and more visual wow moments when I dish out the moola for a film.

So give it a rent if you're a crazy horror fan like I am, it's worth a couple bux for sure.

Even if you hated these two pop divas of the past you might enjoy watching the two slap each other around while running from enormous snakes and gators.

I gotta say, I love when people tell me the CGI effects are really bad and so unrealistic, Um who cares it's a movie about an enormous snake and alligator, so big they actually swallow a train, realistic effects might take away from the "it's so bad it's good" effect.

MONSTERS the love story

I was so excited to see MONSTERS, I was in the mood for a cheesy over the top monster flick with bad fx but I didn’t get to see too many. Instead I got to see a romantic comedy with a couple of monster cameos. If I was prepared for this, had I maybe read a blog, or a review warning me what I was in store for I wouldn’t have been so disappointed. The truth is, it wasn’t a bad movie if you’re in the mood for a monster chick flick. Honestly the trailer shows you half of the monster scenes, just to give you the heads up I’m wishing I had.

So I finally finished watching 13 Fear Is Real the reality show and loved it. I don't think it's coming back and I think no one's happier then PETA. So many creepy crawlies were used in the show and they musta got hurt. Let's see, some snakes were grabbed (possibly squashed) and tossed into a swamp, a cage of rats was thrown on concrete, I think the alligators were fine (if they were real) but you never know.

Anyways despite all the cute animal abuse I really did love the show and wish it would come back.... Hell, I wish I could compete!

I really don't mind them re-making Child's Play only because Brad Dourif will still be voicing Chucky. You can't replace a killer while the actor is still alive, they tried and failed with The Nightmare On Elm Street series.

The Chucky films are my favourite horror turned horror comedy movies, I've always loved them. I've grown so attached to all the characters including Tiffany (The Bride Of Chucky) I really do hope Jennifer Tilly is in the new re-make, it would be awesome to show the two of them dating before Chucky gets himself killed and turned into a doll.

All fingers crossed for the Jennifer Tilly return! What do you think?

I was exhausted and too tired to think the other night so I thought Vampires Suck would be the perfect no brainer movie to watch. YIKES, I was hoping for more even know I knew it was going to be really BAD! Parts were really funny but I thought they’d make the story a little bit different, it was almost identical to the Twilight films, or is that just how I was mocking Twilight in my head as I watched it? Hmmmm, maybe that’s the problem. I did love the little Buffy cameo, they should have played up on that a little more and I’d probably be satisfied. Still, if you’re exhausted and don’t want a serious movie (in any shape form or capacity) then pop in Vampires Suck for a whole lot of sucking.

Mega Piranha VS Piranha 3D

I just watched Mega Piranha followed by Piranha 3D and I'm torn between the two. I loved both films for different reasons. Lets keep in mind that Piranha 3D obviously had a much BIGGER budget but Mega Piranha had much BIGGER fish. Ok lets compare the two shall we?

Mega Piranha was made for TV while Piranha 3d was, well, seen in 3D

Piranha 3D had a ton of big stars Mega Piranha had... Um, some dude and this girl with red hair and some other guy....

Mega Piranha was over the top with the cheesy effects and the Piranha's were so big they were eating helicopters and submarines. The fish in Piranha 3D weren't as big but they did have a lot of really BIG Boobs and more boobs and even more boobs. Did I mention Piranha 3D had lots of boobs?

I really can't choose which film I like better, I really don't think you can compare the two. I haven't seen a fish movie as scary as Piranha 3D since JAWS but I haven't laughed so hard at a fresh water horror movie since LAKE PLACID.

Both films need to be seen so leave your house right now and go see PIRANHA 3D while you still can, then figure out how to watch MEGA PIRANHA.

I think I'll go for a swim. Happy Nightmares!

A few years ago I had the pleasure of enjoying a LIVE Peaches Christ event in San Francisco. The event was Midnight Mass and Elvira was Peaches's featured guest followed by Peter Jacksons DEAD ALIVE (such a fun film) let me just say you will never have a more interesting and fun night out until you experience a LIVE Peaches show. Peaches made Midnight Mass so fun I wanted to move to San Francisco just to watch every show and I remember saying a show as good as that should be traveling around the globe.

At the time I was writing for a magazine in Texas and contacted Peaches Christ for an interview. I remember discussing a short film she had made called GRINDHOUSE the film was campy and fun so of course I loved it to death. It seems like forever ago this cult leader revealed she was working on a revamped script in hopes of turning her short into a feature length film. I was very excited, if this movie turned out half as good as Peaches Christ's LIVE events I'd have a new favourite movie.

ALL ABOUT EVIL is now being toured around the States with a LIVE pre-show circus like event put on by Peaches Christ and various cast members. I was hoping to hit the road and see the event but last night the film came to THE TORONTO AFTER DARK FILM FEST and director Joshua Grannell was in house to judge a costume contest, do a Q&A, and introduce the film.

So it's no lie that I've been DYING to see this movie I was convinced I was going to LOVE every second of it. The truth is every time I hype myself up over something, whenever I'm convinced I will love a movie I always end up hating it. Well, this is NOT the case ALL ABOUT EVIL was even better then I anticipated. It's now my 3rd favourite movie of all time. Ok nothing can beat out ELVIRA MISTRESS OF THE DARK and ELVIRA'S HAUNTED HILLS so third favourite is way up there for me.

I gotta tell you the current trailer on youtube may be enough to spark your interest but it DOES'NT do the movie justice. The film is AMAZING, SPOOKTACULAR, FUNNY, SLIGHTLY DISTURBING and FANGTASTIC!

The movie opened up with the most beautiful credits, ever since film school I have some new obsession with opening credits I know this isn't really normal but it is what it is. I really don't want to ruin anything in the film for you so all I'm going to say is the story was great, the cast was perfect, the humour was fresh and the GORE was not a BORE!

What I will say is Cassandra Peterson who played the mother of Thomas Decker had a few little beeeeeZARO moments with her on screen son and a famous Elvira poster, this clearly was one of my favourite scenes of the movie along with the MOST exciting death scene since Paul Reubens (Pee Wee Herman) died in the movie BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER.

If your a fan of cult horror films with a twist of humour much like they did in the 80's before Horrorwood started pumping out all the remakes you got to go see this film. I went with a group large enough to fill the entire row and not one person was disappointed. This is an instant horror classic you don't wanna miss.

Oh and I caught up with director Joshua Grannell at the pub after the movie to learn they've posted ALL ABOUT EVIL merch on the website but haven't really advertised yet. So I'm on my way to buy a t-shirt! Happy Nightmares!

OMG-zilla DOGHOUSE is an amazing British zombie film it's freakin hilarious! If you get the chance to go see this SPOOKTACULAR movie go see it right away!

This is a new British Zombie Comedy film about a group of guy friends all in the doghouse with their girlfriends... Oh, and boyfriend :) I love that one of the dudes is gay but just as butch as the others haha Anyways, these guys take one of their friends on a trip because of the divorce he's going through. They take him to a small town where women out number the dudes 4 to 1 or something like that. Turns out there's only one dude left because all the women have turned into ZOMBIES!

The jokes were awesome, the blood and guts were fun, and I just love the Brits but now I need a translation guide to know half of the slang words they were pumping out, I couldn't keep up.

I saw the film at the TORONTO AFTER DARK FILM FESTIVAL and had a blast. This is the first time I've ever been to a movie where anyone dressed up as a zombie got in at a discounted price. How FANGTASTIC is that?

LOVED this movie I can't wait to buy the DVD and see it again. Oh if you're the director or distributor you should include a translation guide THANK YOU!

Just finished Stephen Kings Silver Bullet. I can't remember ever seeing this, it never fails to amaze me every time I stumble across a classic I haven't watched.... So many awesome movies so little time..... This is a really good werewolf film and it has Corey Haim in it. RIP Corey!

The movie also stars the girl who played ANNE from Anne of Green Gables.... So weird watching her swear LOL

I'm so excite I just bought tickets for Toronto After Darks screening of ALL ABOUT EVIL. I've been DYING to see this instant cult classic since I first heard about it at a LIVE Peaches Christ/Elvira event.

I've been following Director Joshua Grannell (Peaches Christ)updates about the film since the project was still just a script.

The movie has an awesome cast from Cassandra (my idol "Elvira") Peterson to Thomas Decker, Natasha Lyonne, Mink Stole and an appearance by Peaches herself.

Now that I have my tickets purchased and secure I don't mind sharing with the rest of the world the Toronto screening will be Tuesday August 17th and I'll be attending with four of my closest fiends!

I'm dying to see this I just know it's going to be a MONSTERPIECE!

HOWL-O,

Whoa my introduction finally makes sense, imagine that! I just finished watching BAD MOON it's an oldie but kinda ghoulie from 1996. I'm afraid to say I loved this film in case you show up to my house and beat me to death with a handbag. The truth is I love ALL werewolf movies but this was one with a special twist.

The thing that makes this movie different from the rest of the furry fright films is not just because they broke almost every werewolf rule including the ones they invented but because most of it was shown from a dogs point of view. Who knows maybe PETA had something to do with this, or maybe snoop dog directed it?

I can't believe I just heard about this film, maybe it's because I was high on gasoline or it's possible I was unconscious from all the Jack Daniels I was consuming. Oh yeah, me and Jack go way back!

Any-HOWL, I really enjoyed the good and BAD effects this movie had to offer and I LOVE that little Dennis the Menace was in it (from the 1993 movie with Walter Mathau)Whatever happened to him? He needs a "crack head like" Macaulay Culkin comeback.... Or not?

Pinocchios Revenge

Oh how I love really bad horror movies. Why oh why don't they make more of these? I feel like I've been saying this a lot lately. So my latest viewing pleasure (I'm all about pleasuring myself) is Pinocchio's Revenge a 90's camp horror film from Charles Band productions.

This was my favorite Pinocchio movie of all time. I knew that little wooden puppet was trouble. It's too bad the whale didn't chew before he swallowed! It's a fun campy film if you love fun campy films. If you want a really bad re-make then wait for that New Nightmare on Elm Street movie to come to DVD.

DOLLS, 1987, A Charles Band Production! OMG'zilla I LOVE CHARLES BAND! Every movie he's been a part of is filled with horror camp and spookOlicious comedy. I've always wanted to watch DOLLS just never got around to it. So many horror movies so little time. Finally I got to see this exciting film.

This reminded me of old fairy tale books like Hansel and Gretal, except this had two Australian or English girls (I couldn't tell the diff) dressed as Madonna wannabes. It was awesome they were on the side of the road hitching singing "Get Into The Groove" and were almost run over. One of the girls was wearing Madonnas famous BOY TOY belt and used it as a weapon. I wonder if Madonna saw this LOL

My obsession with older horror flicks continues.... Maybe Hollywood will make an original film sometime soon. Until that BOOtiful day I'll keep on watching Charles flicks!

OMG'zilla why oh why have I never watched PUMPKINHEAD before now? This is my new favourite movie..... Ok not my all time favourite but my recently watched favourite. This movie stars Lance Henriksen you know that guy from the ALIENS movies who played Bishop. Speaking of ALIENS I never did watch PUMPKINHEAD because I felt it looked too much like the ALIENS movie. I should stop listening to myself!

I also love the creepy old witch lady she was freakin FANGtastic. I had to jump on IMDB to see if this was an early Tim Burton film HAHA I knew it wasn't but the art direction looked like his work.

I'm rambling and could continue pointlessly but I'm super excited to have finally watched this. I need to run out and buy the DVD RIGHT NOW!

Howl-O Boils and Ghouls!

You may have noticed I'm enjoying horror movies of the past lately. I'm just not getting enough camp and fun in newer films. Honestly I think I only saw two last year that excited me. Trick R Treat and Drag me To Hell.

Last night I watched a film from 1992 starring Tracy Scoggins from the HORRORable Dantes Cove. I really enjoy her acting it's a shame Dantes Cove SUCKED like a vampire.

Demonic Toys was a fun campy movie. At first I thought it was gonna turn into a Chucky rip off but it quickly proved me wrong. The film definately had some spooky moments involving creepy kids and their toys and I loved some of the really bad horror puns. Awwww I love horror puns, they're SPOOKTACULAR!
