The Walking Dead Mid Season Break

I can't handle the suspense, I'm sure one of the Dixon brothers is going to die when The Walking Dead comes back from its mid season break but which one?  

Are they gonna kill off my favourite character, Daryl? Or will it be his brother Captain Hook? Orrrrr, maybe Daryl will kill his brother to save everyone else. 

Oh the drama, I can't handle the drama.  I know the drama keeps me coming back but it's also making me go all "Jack Nicholson in  The Shining" like... Ugz! 

American Mary

This Post is a little late, I saw American Mary just before Halloween but its a crazy time of the year for me and I'm only now recovering.  If they had AA meetings for the month of October I'd be first in line... Just saying. 

So, I gotta say,  What  better way to watch a Twisted Twins production then sitting with Jen & Sylvia Soska (The Twisted Twins) to watch their new feature movie American Mary at the films Canadian premiere.  

Toronto After Dark was the perfect event to showcase the film, the fans are always out for a good time and all share a love for horror and gore.

For the few of you who don't know, all two of you, American Mary is the twins follow up film to their instant cult classic Dead Hooker In A Trunk, but they are completely different from each other, in a kick ass way.  Jen & Sylvia have out done themselves this time and really showed us just how talented they are by not sticking to just one style.  In my opinion, these girls can (and will) create gold with just about any movie they direct.

Ok, I'll get to the movie already.  American Mary was just simply FANGtastic.  It had a lot of heart and took us into a world not yet traveled in movie making.  It's a breath of fresh air watching an original film that isn't a re-make.  

American Mary takes us into an underground society of body modification and introduces us to some interestingly wicked ass characters.   Most films are lucky to have one stand out character but this film has at least five that could have a spinoff of their own.  I have just one word to describe the bizarro characters the girls created, "absolutely f-ing awesome and lovable..." Ok that was a little more than one word.

I will say this movie is not for everyone, it can get a little intense and blow a big fat gore-load at your face.  There's a couple things that can make me turn into a chicken shit Casper when watching movies (I can't say exactly what without spoiling bits of the movie) and it was impossible to hide it, even sitting beside Jen Soska didn't help.  I believe I buried my face in her armpit a couple times (she smells great if you're wondering) Jens response "Don't be such a pussy Ghost!" 

I find it hilarious reading about people walking out of the movie, those peops clearly didn't have a tough lovin Soska arm to hide in. 

Aside from the few brief moments I pussy'd away from, American Mary had an artsy beauty to it I haven't really seen before.  It was also a touching story, I'm sure most can relate to the struggles the lead character (played by Katharine Isabelle) has to face even if most of us don't quite use her solutions to fix the problem, in a way it's a reminder that sometimes we have no choice but to take the dirt road... Wait that sounds dirty, fuck it, you know what I mean!

If you get the chance to see American Mary on the big screen then drop what your doing and go, it's unlike anything you've seen before.  I know I can't wait to see what Jen & Sylvia do next!

I'm so excited to finally see a movie about the Chupacabra myth.  I only wish I hadn't missed the deadline to help these indie filmmakers out by donating a lil' somethin somethin.   I do love me some found footage independent movies, I know a lot of people bitch about them but I just can't get enough... Of the good ones... Ok I'll admit I also love the bad ones... This one looks promising.

Ghost, Babes & Horror (The Trailer)

I'm so excited to share this trailer with you.  Ghost, Babes & Horror is a new movie by yours cruelly (and Christopher Miniaci), we worked extremely hard on this project with no budget.  We had just one week to write, cast and crew this independent film, four days to shoot it and one month to edit.  Several amazing people donated their time and efforts to make this wet nightmare come true.  Most of us worked full time jobs and spent every free second we had to make this movie as good as we could.  I'm thrilled to share this with you and I hope you'll pass it around like a hot potato... Or something like that...

Howl-O Dudes & Dudettes,

I've been neglecting updates and realised I should be punished.  Punish me DAMN IT!

I've been slaving away making a movie... I know, it's crazy!  I'm working on the BEST of the WORST found footage film EVER!  The craziest part is I had one week to write the script, cast the film and find crew willing to give up 4 days for free.  Yes you heard me, I only had FOUR days to shoot the movie providing me with exactly one month for editing.

This has been the most exciting and challenging project I've ever attempted and I can't wait to share it with you ghouls.  This film takes horror comedy to a whole new cheesy level and I hope you're gonna LOVE it!  It's been a HUGE amount of work and I'm shocked I've managed to pull this off with almost no budget.  It's amazing how people come together and are willing to almost kill themselves for art.

The movie stars yours cruelly, Ghost, Paula Nevin (as Roxy) & Erica Furness (as Ebony).  It also has a few cameo appearances by Canada's Reality Television Star The Brian Doyle & A Home Shopping Network Personality John Beatty.

Thank you so much to everyone who has helped this WET NIGHTMARE of mine come true.  I've learned so friggin much and had a blast doing it.

DeadHeads

Two inexplicably coherent zombies awake amidst a zombie attack, and decide to take a road trip to find the one's lost love, unaware they are being chased by the agents of a ruthless company with its own agenda.

DeadHeads, a FANG-FREAKING-TASTIC movie!  This is the shit I live for, I love original horror comedy movies like DeadHeads.  You can really feel the passion that went into making this film.  I was lucky enough to attend the Toronto screening at Halloween and met one of the directors for a little one on one (check out the video below) and listening to him speak about his creation was a breath of fresh air (Hopefully his air wasn't zombie infected).  These guys struggled to get this film off the ground and it DOESN'T show one bit while watching the film.  This really is a MONSTER-piece that no Hollywood budget could compete with.

If you haven't seen this yet and you love zombies, comedy and love stories you just HAVE to watch DeadHeads.

Familiar

Through a series of tragic events, a middle aged man grows to suspect the negative impulses plaguing his mind may not be his own.

I don't usually review short films, not because I don't like them but because I find it really difficult to say enough without any spoilers.  I hate spoilers, I hate reading them and I try to never be on the spoiling end of it.  No one likes a spoiled egg and I believe the same goes for a good horror film.

Anyhowlz, I just had to talk about this precious gem, a film directed by Richard Powell titled Familiar.  Zach Green, the producer of the film sent me a sneak peak and I have to say I was hooked from the very start.  The film is approximately 23 minutes long and I was entertained every second of it.

Can I just say, I'll never learn, I had just sat down with my microwave dinner and decided to watch as I enjoyed my meal. Ok the meal sucked like a vampire and I wasn't sure if I was gagging over the bad taste of processed food or if the blood and gore I was witnessing on screen was turning my stomach.  I've watched a million and one horror films and yes it's true that gore films are not my favourite of the genre, but, I was finding it hard to believe this independent fright fest was suppressing my appetite.

Aside from my lack of interest in my pathetic meal, my attention and curiosity was growing like the plague over the outcome this brilliantly written monsterpiece had in store.  I kept thinking I knew how it was going to end but I promise you I was not prepared for the shocking twist of events the movie was unveiling.

I was so impressed with the amazing story, the acting felt so natural and believable, the special FX made me want to vomit but made me very happy, but most of all, I was very impressed by the direction this twisted tale took.

Familiar is surprising, creepy, original and damn SPOOKTACULAR!

If you get the chance to see this eerie tale of a man going through some kind of mid life crisis, I fully encourage you to do so.  Just don't make the mistake I did, eat your dinner well before the movie starts.

The Toronto Zombie Walk

I had so much fun walking in The Toronto Zombie Walk... Aside from the walking part it was a blast.  Everyone had amazing costumes and were a lot of fun to hangout with.  This was my very first Zombie Walk and I don't know if I'll ever miss another one.  If you've never been to one I highly recommend checking it out, you'll DIE of excitement!

TRUE BLOOD season four was just as SPOOKTACULAR as the first three.  This show never lets you down, it’s exciting, always leaves you wanting more and ALWAYS leaves you hanging like a corpse on a noose.  Be the noose not the corpse!  What I mean by this is be the one to leave everyone hanging and wanting more of you, don’t be the stiff dangling from a dirty old rope rotting away.  That’s way too boring and boring really is gross like a rotting corpse!

Monster Brawl Opening Gala for Toronto After Dark

The Ghost Show recently attended the Toronto After Darks opening gala of Monster Brawl and had a spooktacular time meeting some of the stars and chatting with fans.

After Dark Film Festival is an exciting week for any genre fan living close enough to the beautiful Underground Cinema.  It's a great time and place to connect with other horror fans, watch unique films and meet the people behind the magic.
This was The festivals first year at The Underground, they had to find a new home due to The Bloor Cinemas recent renovations.  I'm not sure if I'm alone when I say this but the Underground Cinema felt like the perfect place to be. Normally, I struggle with sound (at the Bloor) but this new location kept me going and for the first time I wasn't fighting to stay awake.

Monster Brawl is the perfect horror comedy film for any horror loving wrestle mania fan. Directed by Canada's very own Jesse Cook and starring Jimmy Hart, Robert Maillet, Dave Foley and RJ Skinner.  Monster Brawl feels like you're actually watching wrestling on television only instead of men in tights we get the undead, women with fangs, witches, werewolves, zombies and Frankenstein.

So grab a bottle of Boo Brew and run out to your nearest horror film fest screening of Monster Brawl cuz you'll have one campy fangtastic ride you won't want to miss!

The Marilyn Denis Show, Elvira & SinFEARly yours!

I spent yesterday on set of The Marilyn Denis Show co-hosted by the amazing Elvira (my one and only diva of the dark), they were pre-taping the Halloween Spooktacular episode.
Stay tooned not only was the show jam packed with fangtastic surprises with a gore-geous set but yours cruelly makes a special (Ed) appearance.   Oh, and can I just say Elvira had no shortage of the gut busting jokes, some of which were a little risky for day time television... & I like that!  You really don't want to miss this!

The Amazing Party Store

Everyone on set for The Ghost Show had so much fun filming our GETTING READY FOR HALLOWEEN episode at The Amazing Party Store in Toronto.  The staff were cooperative and friendly, the props are over the top and exciting, the costumes are crazy and so many to choose from.  I can't wait to share this episode with you.  Up next is the incredible Twisted Twins episode so stay tuned for that because you're going to be inspired to grab a camera and start squirting the blood.
